First I will acknowledge that I realize that no one here takes themselves too serious (or I might have avoided joining).
ME: My last test was 170.
This even was after a major head injury in a car accident. I had to be tested during a divorce 3 years ago.
When my IQ was higher and I was a 16 yr old High School grad? after graduating early, took 2 years of engineering courses and just walked away at age 18 to be a contractor. How smart was THAT?
My love life sucked hardcore donkey a$$ with glass & acid cereal breakfast for years
and (quote my family, ">GASP!<") I am now a middle-aged SAHM and finally finishing school out of a hodgepodge of 176 credits.
So even my last clinical score is in 99 percentile and even a less than .2% of the pop that are simply over 130.
But does that percentile kinda tweak your life in other areas, follow like a stray puppy? Like influence the Suck Factors?
Being in a special category- Though the percentiles work a lil higher-
.5% have some ASD (I am borderline Aspergers-means I was trained manifestations of it at an early age)
.5% (to possibly 20) have dyslexia in some degree
.3% have HH (blood disorder)
3-9% are Rh -factor O type
8% of females are left handed
.015% of natural conception past age 40 (common stats for 20s is just 17%.)
6% of families have 3 or more children
2-3% of women using condoms PERFECTLY get pregnant (not gonna put imperfect scores)
2-4% experience failure with injectable/implants contra
solid 9% failure in oral contra
5% of women are taller than 5'8" (US depH&H)
So 90th percentile and over in most categories of "not average"
Ya know what.... maybe there is something to that being average after all >**sound of a thousand cricket violins<
Seriously tho? Has anyone here so far ever really got anything from their 99th percentile status except good grades and a psychotic impatience for idiocy?

Re: So has being "speshul" ever get anyone here ahead?
Tue, August 4, 2009 - 10:22 AMOh my.
Serious questions on this tribe...live dangerously!
Normally, I'd say 'fuck, no,' but since you phrased the questions as carefully as you did...
Socially, no, not really. Nobody gives a fuck from special, and I make a policy of avoiding people who make any such claims for themselves, or who give a rats ass about test scores. They're pathetic assholes.
But experientially, I've been told that I live more intensely than most people, and that is probably true. Everything is intense: thoughts, ideas, sensations. Just being alive is kind of a carnival for me (the freakshow part, more often than not). Also, I find my own company and my own thoughts invariably entertaining.
So no, it's never gotten me ahead--probably the opposite, most times. But it makes the where I am pretty good, for hte most part. -

Re: So has being "speshul" ever get anyone here ahead?

Re: So has being "speshul" ever get anyone here ahead?
Tue, August 4, 2009 - 1:07 PMif by special you mean someone who loves to endlessly type and discuss
how special they are, how different, how unique, how sick, how victimized,
how knowledgeable, how learned, how many times they've been to Burning
Man, how accomplished, how ostracized, how punk rock, how counter-culture,
how anti-establishment, how possessed of singular thought processes, how
empathetic, how angst ridden, how well written, how poised with varied vocabulary...
then i'll just be over here volunteering for ordinary.
as for getting - "ahead" ?
what does that even mean? -
-
Re: So has being "speshul" ever get anyone here ahead?
Tue, August 4, 2009 - 1:30 PMIt means getting a head. probably some form of trophy taking. your cultures are still that primitive.

Re: So has being "speshul" ever get anyone here ahead?
Tue, August 4, 2009 - 5:21 PMWell; I agree that being 'gifted'
does have associated suck factors -
there's ALOT of pluses, but the negatives make themselves well-felt.
I am on the autistic spectrum (but received some special
coaching during the formative years, which helped...somewhat....
......)......
Social interaction has ALWAYS been a huge obstacle...I've made
progress.....but it remains.....
Peer interaction has always been difficult, initially not because I acted like
an obnoxious person...but just the sheer fact of being able to do so much
work at such an advanced level made everyone else look bad....
and I think they resented the ease at which such tasks came to me....
plus, and there si some debate on this, but gifted people have some of
the "not fitting into stereotyped gender behavior" issues going on...
this affected me tremendously; especially coming up during the years
where irrational homophobia was rampant....loving star trek and not
sports...being intelligent, good at artistic pursuits...being affeminite...
all created a wonderful combination ripe for abuse
Some teachers even had problems with my skills...mostly older,
or ones especially sensitive about gender stereotypes...
and, like you... trying to find that special geekgal to procreate with
has been an exceptional challenge as well.....even though
I am more social now, and better at being social that ever before..
it's still a challenge.
I also, ironically, suffered more than one head injury...
that does not seem to have affected my intellect very much
but definetely has made me more prone to depression & anxiety.
During the 80's being able to build a computer in my sleep
made it ridiculously easy to make obscene amounts of money...
over time this became more of a mixed blessing...
and these days working at all has become more problematic
due to my social deficiencies....
I go back and forth about joining mensa... -
-
Re: So has being "speshul" ever get anyone here ahead?
Tue, August 4, 2009 - 5:27 PMso I never answered the question.
*YES* in the 80's I did get ahead....
but blew my advances mostly on more technology...
these days...
not so much... -

Tue, August 4, 2009 - 8:53 PMIt's not in Dana's Manual of Mineralogy (the quickie book), nor in the three-volume set. I even checked the silicates, which are notable for their wide ranges of composition. Perhaps a trade name? -

Given that you purport your IQ to be 170, and one needs only above 120 to get into MENSA, something is wrong indeed.
I will leave figuring out what is wrong as an exercise for the reader. -

Re: So has being "speshul" ever get anyone here ahead?
Thu, August 20, 2009 - 6:51 PMDo what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.
ye gawds, only 120 to get into mensa? that's Depressing...
and, yes, being "special" has gotten me special things, like beat-downs in grade school.
...eh. i can't take complaints about having a decent intellect seriously. much of my life is intellectual in nature and without the tools at hand (in skull?) to grasp what i'm working on with alacrity, i think i'd spend most of my time being very frustrated indeed. i mean, yeah, the Social Thing, but what the hell? i'm not sure intellect is the handicap there. it's just a matter or learning it. i found social situations very, very difficult in the past, but in retrospect i think that was more about my fears and discomforts than anything else.
once i learned how to have a good time and be comfortable with who i was, those problems more or less went away.
and besides, who didn't get beat up in grade school?
Love is the law, love under will.

Re: So has being "speshul" ever get anyone here ahead?
Thu, September 3, 2009 - 3:39 PMThis is a bad statement. Certainly will not get you head. I always thought it funny how Native Americans north of the border were considered to be more "white" (or "red") than those south. I think that is the main determiner of whatever stigma may be attached to being Mexican for anybody.

That was and remains my personal moral choice.
Since I have little problem getting a date when I

It appears that the natives of this tribe engage in the curious act of trying to verbally abuse one another as part of strange ritual. I have noted a couple of alpha males amongst their number, of whom which I will try to ply with shiney beads and liquor to see if I may gain their trust.
Amongst their numbers include some wierd Catholic saint, what appears to be a greek mythological creature, a sort of Jibbo Satan, and some strange moon beasts of immense rudeness.
I have also detected a number of lesser beasts amongst these tribal dwellers who seem to hang off their every word and actions. I must get closer to this tribe and learn about the cultural dynamics of this strange but compellingly pathetic hovel.

My main guide Mangdulgadabojismoshandowallla, has lead me to the first of the tribes that I will document for the Eastland Midland Outland Society, as part of our ongoing cataloging of the various portions of our good Queen Elizabeths Empire. It is my hope that these brutal creatures will accept the word of our lord Jesus Christ and not resist the help of Europeans.
For it is the nature of Europeans to be helpful.
If all else fails, I brought cake.

Thu, September 3, 2009 - 10:13 AMactually I think that stat refers to good ladies; tall ones often turn out to be cigar smokers, bulldaggers, and trouser-wearers (dungarees at that) so they fall off the H&H's radar. "No good Scot" and all, eh. -
